What is your Why?
Each week I get bogged down with schoolwork, bakery orders, my
job at the school, my family, and my church calling. It can all be a lot. Why do we try to do everything? Should we do EVERYTHING? Some might think that I can sacrifice one or
two of these things for now to work toward a better future. I DISAGREE!
I would not be successful without each piece in my life. More than anything, I rely on the Lord to
guide me through this time, and to help me clearly see the things that are most
important, and to give me strength when I think that I can’t keep going. Early pioneers of my church faced great
hardship as they traveled often pushing handcarts across the plains of the
United States. Many on this journey
recognized the angels that helped them carry on when they felt they couldn’t go
another step. If God cares about their
journey, He cares about mine as well. I have faith that with Him and a will to
work hard, I can find success.
But success is not just between me and the Lord. While I do spend hours each week doing homework and finishing assignments, I want to make sure that my family does not feel abandoned. Boundaries are important when it comes to outside commitments. There are so many good things that will try to pull us away from much better things. My family is the best thing in my life. If I gave all my time to my business and it became hugely successful, I would still feel that I failed if in building a business I failed my family.
Last Saturday was my son’s swim meet. He works hard on the swim team, and he has some
wonderful goals to reduce his time and ultimately make a great contribution to
his team. It was important to me that I was
there. To me it is vital for my kids to
know that I will always be there for something that is important to them. This week my daughter has a volleyball game. These are small things now, but big things to
my kids.
So, while the bakery orders pile up, and the workload never
seems to diminish, I will always choose to put my family and my faith first. They are my why every time.
